Our Barn Ablution Block
State Heritage Listed Place – Conservation, Adaptation and Upgrade 2018
This project undertaken in 2014/15 included the conservation, adaptation and upgrade of Girl Guides Our Barn ablutions building at 9 Ford Street York WA (fmr Barn associated with Faversham House). The single level ablution and laundry facility which serves the Girl Guides and other groups who regularly stay in the adjacent dorm accommodation, was in a state of poor sanitation, poor lighting, dated fit out, fretting building fabric, drainage issues and the facility was not universally accessible.
With the modest budget of 165K the girl guides, working closely with the community, architect RPE, the contractor and his team, have achieved successful conservation and upgrade of the ablution facility into a light, pleasant, functional, healthy and accessible space.
The project involved upgrading fittings, fixtures and internal finishes, correcting drainage, plumbing issues, and moisture issues to existing walls, repairing brickwork and aesthetic treatment internally and externally and universal access.
The project has been well received by the client and community and regarded as a success.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank both you and (the Girl Guides WA) for all your assistance and patience during the course of works. Your understating and professionalism has really made our job a breeze and we do thank you for it.
It has been a true pleasure working with both of you and should the opportunity arise we would be more then happy to offer our services again.-Marko Alujevic, General Manager, Buildmark 06-07-2017
