Similar to many rural communities, the Bruce Rock Supermarket, along with other local shops, is the heart of the Community both economically, socially, and symbolically. When flames engulfed the original supermarket along with the hardware store it was a heartbreaking event for everyone in town. The design and construction process of the new supermarket shows the community’s resilience and strength to rebuild itself. At ORA, we all feel humble and privileged to be involved in this process and be part of the community.

The new Supermarket will provide much-needed space for everyday items as well as a dedicated section for hardware, and it comes with a well-insulated envelope and plenty of natural light, and is universally accessible throughout with a street awning to marry with the existing adjacent shopping street awning. We have also included plenty of sitting benches and a hang-out spot in front of the shop so it can once again be truly the heart of the Community.
