Brookton Police Station & Quarters (fmr) Brookton Museum
The former Brookton Police Staon & Quarters, now Brookton Museum, was constructed in 1913 by the Commissioner of Police through
the auspices of the Government of Western Australia, following lengthy endeavours by the Brookton & Districts Road Board (now Shire of
Brookton) represenng the Brookton community to establish a permanent police presence in the district. The Architect approving the
design was the Government’s Chief Architect, Hillson Beasley AWAIA of Perth, and the builder was JH Brown, with stables and a cellblock
constructed on the same site (now demolished). A new Police Staon was opened in 1980, and in 1985 it became the home of the
Brookton Museum, with an extensive array of police memorabilia and artefacts of local historical significance. In 2001 the Brookton &
Districts Historical Society through the Shire of Brookton at a local level commissioned a Conservaon Management Plan and
subsequently, a range of Conservaon Works, to restore and preserve the building, from ORA Director Rosalie Pech Eva, in associaon
with Ian R.D. Watson & Associate, Architects.
